The financial world is no longer just about reading balance sheets; it’s about capturing the pulse of the market in real time. To unpack how that shift is playing out for retail investors, BridgeWise and Context Analytics sat down for a webinar on unlocking the signal in social sentiment data, the product of BridgeWise’s February acquisition of Context Analytics.

Creating an End-to-End Social Sentiment Solution

“So one team, one data pipeline, and one platform,” said Joe Gits, Managing Director of BridgeWise North America, describing what the acquisition made possible.

Before joining forces, Context Analytics was already a leading provider of social and news analytics for sell-side firms. Combined with BridgeWise’s existing distribution across hundreds of institutions in Asia, Europe, and South America, the two companies now run a single vertically integrated pipeline: from raw social data, to structuring and signal creation, to the widgets that put it in front of an end investor.

A New Layer of Data for the Next Era of Trading

“It’s really a three-component system,” Gits explained: an Extractor that listens to millions of conversations a day across X/Twitter, Reddit, StockTwits, podcasts, earnings calls, and regulatory filings; an Evaluator that scores which accounts are genuine influencers and reads every sentence up to eight times to extract sentiment; and a Calculator that turns those individual readings into a single published score.

That score, called the S-Factor, describes how a security’s current conversation compares to its own 20-day baseline, refreshed every minute rather than once a day or whenever a story happens to break.

Tapping into Social Sentiment Will Aid Retail Investors

“20% of the US equity trading value now comes from retail, and retail gets its information from social media and unstructured data,” Gits said. “26% of investors act on influencer recommendations, and 61% of them are under 35.”

When conversations on social media get significantly more positive than they’ve been over a 20-day baseline, Gits noted, those securities tend to go on to outperform; when they get significantly more negative, they tend to underperform. That’s the same signal BridgeWise now surfaces through retail-facing widgets: a sentiment heat map, top-10/bottom-10 sentiment movers, per-security sentiment trends, and an AI-generated summary of the conversation behind each score.

A Shared Focus on Proven, Reproducible Signal

“We have three US patents and a number of international patents,” Gits said, describing the work behind making a signal built on social data resistant to manipulation, including a dispersion metric that flags when one account is flooding the conversation rather than reflecting broad sentiment.

Context Analytics SVP Zishan Cai added that the feed carries 13 years of out-of-sample data, with the long, positive-sentiment bucket outperforming the S&P 500 benchmark and the short, negative-sentiment bucket underperforming it, consistently, since 2011. It’s the same data, Gits noted, that the largest hedge funds in the world have relied on since 2012, now extended to retail through BridgeWise’s platform.
