AI-Powered Investing

Investors have relied on various tools to help them discover opportunities and create their investment portfolios, ranging from standard earnings reports to advisor analysis and media influencers. Now, as AI emerges as a transformative technology across multiple industries, its impact is being felt in portfolio creation as well.

AI has the potential to solve a number of challenges investors face, specifically in the way it can help them navigate two contradictory challenges. On one hand, there is an overwhelming amount of data available to investors, yet it can feel almost impossible to glean valuable insights from it and take action. On the other hand, there is a lack of analysis and reporting outside the large mega-cap stocks that grab the most attention from analysts.

This means that while investors might want to explore smaller, more unique investment opportunities, there aren’t many tools available that can help them identify those opportunities.

Demonstrating the power of AI and how it can help solve this challenge was the motivating factor behind our collaboration with eToro to create the MidCapDiverse smart portfolio. This AI-driven portfolio on the eToro platform pursues a mid-cap strategy, leveraging the growth potential these stocks hold while also featuring the relatively lower risk of more mature companies.

The portfolio, which we launched in July, is already gaining momentum with investors on the eToro platform. We recently held a webinar with the eToro team to provide a more in-depth look into the strategy behind the portfolio and how it’s changing the investor experience of portfolio creation.

The webinar featured Dor Eligula, Co-founder and CBO at BridgeWise, and Lale Akoner, Global Market Analyst at eToro, who provided expert insights into the ways AI is transforming portfolio creation.

AI Is Already a Powerful Tool for Investors

Dor opened the webinar with a review of general AI capabilities and how the technology is progressing across diverse industries with rapidly expanding capabilities.

“It feels that you can now, with AI tools, do almost anything. Things that you couldn’t even imagine doing previously, both in scale and speed, are now being done. When we’re talking specifically about the capital markets, we can understand how AI can help investors and traders with portfolio construction, trading, and investing better.”

He also explored how the vast amounts of capital market data can be both an obstacle for investors and an area where AI can have a significant impact.

“The capital markets are maybe the most competitive markets across the globe. There is, on one hand, a saturated offering of data – both the more traditional datasets like fundamentals, market data, technical data, news, etc. – but also some alternative datasets that you can go through. On the other hand, having such big datasets and a data ocean brings challenges, especially to retail investors who don’t have the time, resources, or know-how to go through these datasets. And AI can definitely help them do the analyses.”

AI-Powered Investing Delivers on the Promise of Innovation

Lale opened her remarks by examining how AI is already delivering innovation to the investor experience while also helping drive smarter decision-making.

“We think that AI is obviously going to continue to play a central role in the future of investing. We already see it driving innovation across trading platforms, research, and portfolio management, and also helping investors go through massive amounts of data to uncover patterns and make smarter, data-driven decisions. Over time, it will really become a standard tool for both retail and institutional investors.

On the retail side, we are seeing clear excitement about it. We’ve noticed strong interest in AI-related stocks and thematic investments as well. There’s also general enthusiasm about how AI can enhance the investing experience itself, whether through smarter analytics or more personalized financial education.”

The Mid-Cap Opportunity for AI-Powered Investing

Dor provided behind-the-scenes insights into the choice of mid-cap stocks as a target for the portfolio. He explained how the BridgeWise and eToro teams looked for a unique offering that provided an alternative to common strategies in the market. He said that there was an opportunity to look outside the Magnificent Seven that dominate so much of the current investment cycle and provide a more diversified opportunity.

“So we agreed together that we can, with the help of AI, enable a very nice diversification for clients’ portfolios while doing the heavy lifting for them, choosing the best in class based on the AI ratings of BridgeWise, analyzing very big datasets across a wide variety of companies that the vast majority of retail investors would not have the time, resources, or know-how to cover themselves.

And naturally, we looked at the mid-cap segment within the market. It’s a very good opportunity to discover, potentially, the next NVIDIA or Tesla.”

AI-Powered Investing and Accessibility

Lale went on to share how AI can help enable more accessible and equitable investment opportunities, providing valuable insights that can be leveraged by investors of all categories and experience levels.

“Our vision has always been opening global markets to everyone – not just institutional investors but also retail investors. AI-driven tools are helping us achieve that. By using AI to uncover opportunities in areas such as mid-caps – segments that could be harder for retail investors to navigate – we’re actually giving everyday investors access to insights that were previously out of reach.

What excites us most is that AI doesn’t just make things efficient from an investment point of view; it makes it more inclusive. It really levels the playing field by bringing more data-driven and forward-looking strategies to a much wider audience. And that’s exactly what we stand for at eToro – making sure that we give people the tools, education, and access they need to participate confidently in the financial markets.”
